Sunil Budhdeo

Sunil has over 35 years’ experience in the Traffic, Transport and ITS Industry, starting out as an Installation Engineer in the private sector before joining Leicester City Council as a technician.

Working up the corporate ladder at Leicester, as a senior Engineer his role was to set standards within the industry and Local Authorities. As a key member of the Sector Schema standards committee, he helped in paving the way forward for the industry to have a common and progressive standard for all operatives.

At Nottingham City Council, Sunil was responsible for delivery of the most efficient tram network, the first Colour and Symbolized Car Park Guidance system and the first digital Bus lane enforcement system in UK.

Sunil joined Coventry City Council in 2010 as UTMC Manager, with responsibility for the Highway Network Development team and managing the Response and Monitoring section.

Successfully completed projects include: Coventry’s 4G Mesh network, Pay On Display Machine network, RTPI, first full colour VMS, Interactive Totems, live on street parking bay availability, CCTV, ANPR Cameras, Wireless Vehicle Detection that use the 4G Mash network for communication, along with securing national and European funding for the MODUM project, Horizon 2020 project HoPE amongst others.

Sunil is currently involved in the following projects:  iVMS, UK CITE, UK Autodrive, CATCH!, HoPE, Appy Parking – these range from Autonomous Vehicles, connected vehicles, and live data from the UTC system.

Now a Board member of the UTMC major schema, Chair of UTMC Standard and specification committee and the Siemens user group, the desire to be innovative and set a high standard within the industry carries on.
