Mandatory Data Breach Laws Introduced

Changes to the data collection and privacy information legislation will come into effect on 23 February this year. The Notifiable Data Breaches Act 2017 means that for the first time those entities who are subject to the Privacy Act 1988 will have a mandatory obligation to report data breaches to both the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and any individuals who could potentially be impacted by the breach.
