London’s Gatwick Airport set to improve the customer parking experience

Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second largest airport, with over 46 million passengers travelling through each year, and in the interest of improving customer experience, Gatwick Airport has decided to revisit the way their short-term car parking was run.

Smart Parking is set to install over 4,000 vehicle detection sensors throughout five multi-deck car parks that are allocated for short-term parking.

Smart Parking will also be installing 33 LED directional signs across the five car parks that will provide real-time visibility of car park availability and directions to areas with available bays to motorists. This alleviates vehicle congestion and ensures a better flow of vehicles throughout the car parks.

The technology solution includes SmartSpot gateways, which relay live parking events to SmartCloud, Smart Parking’s online smart city management platform.

SmartCloud will provide airport operators complete visibility of the usage, peaks and trends of the car parks, and they can run detailed reports to help make future proof decisions based on real, accurate data.

The London Gatwick Airport contract includes Smart Parking conducting system maintenance over a five year term, to ensure the site is optimised and working at its best capacity.

“We are delighted to start 2020 with such a significant project win. After spending the end of 2019 working through a comprehensive tender process with London Gatwick Airport, Smart Parking are looking forward to installing our cutting edge parking technology solution in one of the world’s major international airports”, said Paul Gillespie, Smart Parking’s Group CEO.
