A new frontier for car parking – investigating and managing car parking at schools
New South Wales is growing. To meet educational needs this means vertical schools–intensifying development at existing inner Sydney school sites. As daily car travel to school already places pressure on road networks, this means existing active and public transport networks must work harder just to accommodate the current mode share to school. To reduce local impacts, schools must achieve a higher rate of multi-modal travel by walking, bicycle riding, carpooling and public transport. This presentation outlines the experiences with school travel planning for school infrastructure and the Northern Beaches Council. For many schools, this is their first time managing parking.
