QLD – announcement of new transport minister
Media statement Monday 18 December (attributable to Jeremy Irvine, CEO)
Parking Australia notes the appointment of Bart Mellish as Queensland Minister for Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital Services, announced today by Premier Miles.
As we noted with the news last week regarding a change of minister, we look forward to working with Minister Mellish collaboratively and positively on a range of parking-related matters.
Of note and focus will be discussions on the Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2021, submissions on a review which closed in late August. After submissions closed, Parking Australia wrote to then Minister Bailey enclosing a copy of our submission, reiterating the wish to work collaboratively with government on the matter, and highlighting the policies’ complexities and nuances in these discussions. A letter from the minister in response acknowledged our perspectives.
We have sought advice regularly on where matters are at and in doing so have consistently reiterated the importance of wider policy considerations being contextualised, and the importance of a holistic response to this matter.
We have written to Minister Mellish today introducing Parking Australia, noting the important role members have across a range of parking settings, including local government, and seeking a meeting to brief Minister Mellish on a range of multi-faceted matters which involve a series of policy considerations.
We look forward to working with the Minister Mellish and congratulate him on his appointment.
