Melbourne’s fourth lockdown
By Stuart Norman, CEO Parking Australia
Melbourne’s fourth lockdown has come just as the parking industry was starting to get some confidence about the year ahead and the path out of COVID. At our recent networking event in Sydney (prior to the latest lockdown), many attendees I spoke with were beginning to feel optimistic about the rest of 2021.
Unfortunately, the latest lockdown doesn’t just effect Victorians, it reduces the motorist’s confidence to travel right across the country. In addition to motorists staying at home, public and private operators and suppliers are also negatively affected.
In addition to this, the Victorian Government has not deemed the parking industry as an area which requires assistance and as such, did not include us in their latest grants program.
Let’s hope that this latest lockdown is brought under control in a timely manner, as many others have been since late last year.
PACE 2021
Time is quickly passing for members to access early bird pricing to attend PACE in Adelaide from 22-24 August. We’ve been working hard to put together a program on current hot topics in the industry, including disability parking, the use and collection of parking data, data standards, EV charging, customer service and recovering from adversity following the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you are yet to register to attend, sponsor or exhibit, I strongly encourage you to do so before the end of the financial year.
Parking Awards
Nominations for 2021 Parking Industry Awards are now open. This is an excellent opportunity for those in the industry who have implemented outstanding technology, innovation, marketing, customer service or just want to acknowledge a young achiever in their organisation.
This year we have included a new award, the Outstanding Sustainable Car Park Award, which is replacing the Outstanding New Car Park Development Award, as we believe that all new car parks should be built with the environment in mind.
Winners will be announced at the Awards gala dinner on Monday 23 August at the Adelaide Convention Centre (Monday night of PACE 2021).
We look forward to your submissions and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
