This year Curtin University?s Parking and Traffic staff initiated a ‘Toys for Tickets’ program, which operated for the month of November. The program gave parking ticket offenders the option to pay their fine or donate a new toy. The toys were donated as Christmas gifts for children and youth under?Parkerville Children and Youth Care in Mirrabooka, WA.
The response to the initiative has been overwhelming with more than 170 extra toys being donated (with 44% more toys than tickets). 579 toys were collected in total and 403 infringements were waived. Most of the toys donated were of a high quality which exceeded the value of the fine, with some people choosing to donate a toy rather than appeal a fine.
