COVID-19 has had an impact on all Australians. One major impact has been on our freedom of movement. As lockdown measures are eased all Australians will need to travel in a COVID-Safe manner.
The parking industry want all Australians to be safe and have developed the COVID-Safe Parking Initiative. We want to limit the amount of contact required to parking safely and reduce the risk to motorists.
COVID-Safe Parking is the ability to park in a contactless way. Whether a motorist is parking on the kerbside (On-Street) or in a parking facility (Off-Street), there are ways to access and pay for parking without the need to touch anything other than your keyboard or your phone.
What is Contactless Parking?
Contactless Parking to be the ability to access and pay for a parking spaces without the need to touch an access control\payment device that requires you to pull tickets, use cash or press buttons. As such there is no physical interaction with any parking equipment. This can be in the form of:
- Booking online with tap and go entry and exit
- Mobile phone payment
- App or mobile phone technology providing touchless payment, entry and exit
Where is Contactless Parking available?
Contactless parking is provided by local governments, commercial parking providers and alternative parking platforms. It can apply to both On-Street and Off-Street parking.
