Car Park Occupancy Researcher to Speak at PACE

Dr Elizabeth Taylor, author of recent papers on parking policy, urban planning and car park occupancy in Melbourne, has been confirmed as a Keynote Speaker for PACE 2018. Dr Taylor from Melbourne’s RMIT University will speak on ‘The elephant in the scheme: planning for and around car parking’ on Thursday 1 November.
Dr Elizabeth Taylor is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Urban Research (CUR) at RMIT University. Her research was recently referenced in The Age article ‘Dead space in the city: the true scale of vacant parking revealed‘. Her publications contribute policy-focused research across urban planning, housing markets, property rights and locational conflict. A recent research focus for Elizabeth has been car parking policy. Looking at parking as an overlooked but critical policy issue, Elizabeth’s research includes publications on parking for higher density housing; parking policy conflict; parking policy history; and on techniques for the use of remote sensing to map car parking space and occupancy.

In 2017 Elizabeth received competitive funding from the German Academic Exchange (DAAD) Research Stays for Academics scheme, undertaking research examining innovations in car parking policies in German cities based at TU Dortmund. Elizabeth has increasingly contributed to broader engagement with parking policy debate, through print media and radio. She hosted the practitioner seminar “Parking Futures” in 2016 and was an invited speaker on car parking at the 2017 City of Melbourne Road User Pricing seminar. Elizabeth was a consultant to The Australian Council of Learned Academies Securing Australia’s Future – Delivering Sustainable Urban Mobility project, and in 2018 authored the background paper on car parking policy for the City of Melbourne transport strategy.
