Warrnambool City Council, like many regional councils, had parking issues which needed addressing. Warrnambool were experiencing intense population growth, which was expected to continue, and parking had become a concern for businesses and residents alike.
In May 2017, the City of Melbourne was receiving almost daily complaints on social media from cyclists about cars parking in bike lanes. Drivers were persistently disregarding the ‘No Stopping’ parking signs during peak hours and parking in the bike lanes, typically to drop off passengers for less than a minute.

Secure Parking took the top award at November’s Parking Industry Awards, being named as the 2016 Parking Organisation of the Year. Secure Parking’s success has been realised through a whole-of- business emphasis on technology and improvements in the services offered to customers.
Database Consultants Australia were named as the winner of Excellence in Technology and Innovation at the 2016 Parking Industry Awards for world-leading innovation of parking technology in the City of Melbourne. The project included infringement-grade sensors, integrated enforcement technology (PinForce) and consumer parking application (PayStay).
The City of Joondalup was awarded the top prize for Outstanding New Car Park Development at the 2016 Parking Industry Awards for Reid Promenade Car Park (RPCP). The new five level multi storey car park that was built on an existing 140-bay open air car park in Joondalup City Centre. Designed by Hames Sharley Architects, and constructed by the Georgiou Group, the car park was officially opened by Joondalup Mayor, Troy Pickard, in February this year.
Parking industry consultant, Grant McLean, received recognition for the many years he has dedicated to the parking industry, when he was awarded Individual Excellence in Parking at the 2016 Parking Industry Awards. Grant has been involved in the Parking Industry for over 30 years.
